The Charleston Group lawyers Score Win in Federal Court

December 11, 2024

WILMINGTON, NC - The Charleston Group obtained a federal jury defense verdict on behalf of The Housing Authority of the County of Wake, a North Carolina public housing authority in the Research Triangle area. McClelland v. Housing Authority of the County of Wake involved a plaintiff who brought claims against her former employer under the Americans with Disabilities Act and the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA). The plaintiff alleged that the Housing Authority interfered with her rights under the FMLA and retaliated against her for taking medical leave.  Plaintiff sought approximately $1 million in total damages. The jury rendered a unanimous verdict in favor of the Housing Authority on all claims after a multi-day trial.

Jose Coker was lead counsel on behalf of the Housing Authority along with Jonathan Charleston. “The team was very prepared and strategic in its defense, deciding not to put on any evidence.  While the jury was sympathetic to the Plaintiff, our client was successful in cutting off any path for the jury to award damages,” said Coker.
